In this video, Robert goes 10 inches deep to review the George H. Way 14×10 Studio Maple Snare Drum.
High, Medium, and Low tunings are demonstrated on this drum. Both with the snares on and off. It makes a great tom as well!
An interesting feature is the 90° stepped snare tension which allows you to recall favorite settings. Fine tuning the snare tension is very useful for increasing the drum’s sustain and creating a reverb like effect without digital processing.
On this drum, I got great results by tuning the resonant head and batter head very high. The lower the tension of the batter head, the more dampening is required to shape the sustain of the note. Doing so will provide a fat, dead burst that together with the tension of the snare wires can be adjusted to fit the tempo of the song.
