Do you ever struggle with vocal compression?
It can be difficult to gracefully balance vocal presence in the mix, while preserving dynamics and adding color.
That’s a lot of work for one compressor!
In this video, Robert demonstrates a signature compression method used frequently by recording/mixing engineer Joe Chiccarelli. This dual compression method uses 2 different compressors with contrasting attack and release times to compress the vocal in a unique way.
Joe prefers to start with the slower compressor to compress the overall level of the signal, and add some color. He then uses the second compressor to adjust the attack and presence of the vocal in the mix.
