Voice (Clean singing) – Condenser Microphone

The go to option for recording the human voice is a large diaphragm condenser.

This will capture a full hifi image of the vocal.

Place the microphone 6” from the singer’s mouth for a balanced tone. Have the singer lean in on quieter phrases, and back off the mic a bit during louder belting sections, this will help to naturally control the dynamic range of the audio without using a compressor. Nice!

*Remember to use a pop screen to cut down on pops and air plosives from the singer blowing air.

If you’re after a more aggressive sound, it might be better to use a dynamic microphone.
